Windsurfing: Bradfield Wind Direction: NE Wind Stength: 8kts - 10kts Surf / Sea State: flat Air Temperature: warm Sea Temperature: warm Weather: Sunny Max Speed: 12.3 kts (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 8.7nm (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
Good turn out again at Bradfield in glorious sunshine on the River Stour.
Strange because on arrival at 12.00 the wind was up and some were rigging
very small sails, whilst the pro’s were rigging 10m+!
My 9.3 cam sail is being repaired so used a lightweight rotational sail,
which was pretty useless today. By the time I set up the Slingshot 84 wing,
the wind had dropped and people were coming back to change up.
I had a washer under the stab to gain even more lift, which did lift but
crazy lift in the gust which I couldn’t control as the mast foot was
right at the back. Although I move it forward later the lifts was wierd,
straight up then slam down. The washer was way too thick so removed it and
reverted to the standard set up. Some lightweights were going well and the
good guys went up to Wrabness as usual. One of the fast slalom guys
borrowed a formula board / fin with 11m sail and was running foilers
ragged! He was definitely quick in very little wind
I had a few flights but nothing much. Strange as it’s the first time I
have used the big wing in a while and I found it very awkward. My 76 wing
strap setup didn’t work at all and I could get in any of them. The lift
was ver igh when I did fly, so uncontrollable for me out of straps.
Shame really I needed another couple of knots. After 2hrs only covered 8nm
and max spd 12knots, so not a good day. Can’t complain, as the weather
was great and burnt a few more calories.
Couldn’t be bothered o pump, so probable missed a few rides on gusts.
